All Bridges open on demand

Bridge horn signals are included, however; operators prefer the VHF, Channel 16

In your trip up river to Cramer Marine, you will encounter a total of 7 bridges. How fun.

Bridge 1 . The Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge. Federal Highway 794. Vertical Clearance 120 ft. If you can’t make it under this bridge, call for special instructions.

Bridge 2. The RR swing bridge at Hansen Storage. This bridge only closes for the circus train. (If it should return)

Bridge 3: The Broadway Street Bridge. The king pin. Be sure to tell them you are going all the way to Cramer Marine. (Their horn signal is 3 long and 1 short)

Bridge 4: The Water Street Bridge. (3 long, 2 short)

Bridge 5: Soo Line RR Bridge over the Menomonee River. (2 short blasts. Do not go through this bridge until the Plankinton Street bridge is also open!

Bridge 6: The Plankinton Street Bridge. This bridge is operated remotely from the Broadway Street Bridge. The bridge operator will be monitoring your progress up river and will probably open as soon as he/she sees (they have cameras) the railroad bridge swing. Because he/she is also operating the Broadway Street Bridge, there may be delay while Broadway is completed. It’s a good idea to call Broadway on the VHF and confirm your opening request. (2 long)

Bridge 7: The North 6th Street Bridge This Bridge is operated remotely from the Water Street Bridge. Call Water Street on the VHF. Be sure to specify that you want the North 6th Street Bridge Open. They won’t open until they see you in their camera and it seems like you have to be in the center of the river, and within 30 yards from the bridge to be seen. (2 short)

In all cases be prepared to switch your VHF radio to channel 10.

In a pinch, the RR phone number is on a sign on the bridge. City Bridge is 414-286-2571

The City bridges will not open 7:30am to 8:30am and 4:30pm to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday.

After November 5, a two hour in advance notice will be required at the RR if you go through after 3:00pm Monday through Friday, or any time Saturday and Sunday.

We here at Cramer Marine are happy to move your boat for you. TOP
